Port Talbot is one of the only harbours in the UK capable of handling cape-size vessels of up to 170,000dwt.
The port handles around 6.6 million tonnes of cargo every year and over £760 million of trade. As well as supporting steel production in South Wales, the port handles project and heavy lift cargoes, steels and other metals, building aggregates and cargoes to support the offshore energy sector. The port offers large areas of development land capable of attracting exciting new investment opportunities.
In this exclusive interview, Green Economy Wales editor Mark Powney, spoke with Andy Reay, Head of Offshore Wind at ABP about the level of investment that will be needed within ABP facilities in Port Talbot and more specifically, what any investment will be spent on. Andy also discussed the impact a freeport status will have and what that will mean for the development of supply chain and local communities.
