M-SParc’s Egni Conference Sets Agenda for Accelerated Climate Action

M-SParc’s fifth annual Egni (Energy) Conference is due to address key policies affecting the journey towards net zero.

The organisers say that Egni 2024, taking place on Tuesday, May 21, will serve as a rallying cry for change, challenging policy and decision-makers to accelerate the pace of progress towards a sustainable future.

They said:

“2024 marks a pivotal year if we are to halt the effect of climate change. With each passing day, the reality of the climate emergency becomes more pronounced, demanding urgent action that should have been taken yesterday. As we stand on the brink of irreversible consequences, something must be done.  The Egni conference promises a diverse array of voices, each contributing to the dialogue on climate action, and focusing on accountability.”

Dr Debbie Jones, the Low Carbon Innovation Manager for M-SParc, is leading on the conference this year.

She said:

“We’re excited to lead the way once again in the discussion around climate change in what is a very important year politically. It’s one we should never shy away from.  We’re advocating for a greener future, in the year 2024 which is set to become the hottest on record.  With a general election coming up, the stakes are higher than ever before, and politicians feature heavily on Tuesday’s agenda.”

The main political parties will take centre stage at this year’s event, with Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport Ken Skates MS, the Secretary of State for Wales David TC Davies, and the Leader of Plaid Cymru Rhun ap Iorwerth all due to speak.

Debbie continued:

“We have a great agenda and I’m really looking forward to challenging our leaders, and hearing from experts to see what we can all do to strengthen our actions as we aim for net zero.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with decision-makers, gaining valuable insights into the roadmap ahead for Wales' energy landscape.

Adra Housing Association, Ambition North Wales, Ynni Cymru, Great British Nuclear and the Crown Estate will be among the companies showcasing their work and discussing what may hold them back on their low carbon journey.

M-SParc themselves will present to discuss their goal to reach net zero by 2030, and the challenges that come with this.
