Net Zero Industry Wales’ (NZIW) is set to host the return of its flagship conference, EmpowerCymru.
The organisation – an independent body which supports and enables Welsh industries to decarbonise and transition to net zero – said the event on Monday 10 March would be more collaborative than ever.
Industries, investors, public sector organisations and thought leaders are invited to join, listen and discuss their experiences and strategies in support of Wales’ journey to net zero.
The event, which will take place at Techniquest, Cardiff’s science discovery centre, will be split into two sessions — ‘building a modern industrial strategy’ (morning) and ‘mobilising Wales for delivery’ (afternoon).
It will be sponsored by Vale, Enfinium, Acre, Turley, and Copper Communications.
In the morning, the conference will explore how Wales can build a modern industrial strategy that complements the UK Government’s Industry 2035 plan. The afternoon session will drive collaborative discussions through a ‘mini-hackathon’ — delivered in partnership with Sweetmans & Partners. It is hoped that elements of the proposals made by participants can be taken forward by Welsh industry into 2025 and beyond.
Meanwhile, those not partaking in the mini-hackathon can enjoy a fireside chat between NZIW CEO, Ben Burggraaf, venue hosts, Techniquest, and the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales. Together, they will examine how Welsh industry can better engage young people to address environmental issues.
Ben Burggraaf, CEO of Net Zero Industry Wales, said:
“Wales has abundant resources of industrial, grid-connected land, and a skilled workforce that can, with the right support, power the next industrial revolution in our nation. There is a strong need to realise Wales’s potential, as part of the wider UK Industrial strategy.
“Last year’s conference saw over 160 delegates come together to discuss the barriers and opportunities facing Welsh industry, and the support and investment required. However, this year, we want to look at how we can actually drive delivery — to make Wales the country of choice for producing sustainable goods and services.
“Wales is a nation rooted in a proud industrial heritage and it’s important that we continue to build momentum. Contrary to popular belief, there is actually a bright future for industry in Wales, if only the opportunity is unlocked now and at pace.”
