A new online tool has been launched to support people across Wales in making more climate conscious decisions.
By answering eight questions about travel, energy use and food choices, people receive personalised recommendations for actions they can take to save money and create a greener Wales.
‘My Green Choices’ was developed by the Welsh Government’s Climate Action Wales campaign to help tackle climate change. Since its launch in 2022, research has revealed a positive shift in people across Wales taking steps to help combat climate change and an increase in willingness to do more.
Last year, a survey of 1,000 adults across Wales showed that a high proportion of people felt they could do more when it came to shopping sustainably (48%), reducing what they buy and repairing things (42%), actively taking steps to drive less and walk or cycle more (31%), and eating locally and sustainably (50%).
‘My Green Choices’ was designed to help people to make changes by providing practical advice that balances quick, cost-effective solutions with help for long-term investments for those who can afford it. It offers tailored advice for meaningful action under four categories; energy, travel, daily choices such as what we wear and food choices.
Huw Irranca-Davies, Deputy First Minister with responsibility for Climate Change, said:
“We all have an important part to play in tackling climate change, and ‘My Green Choices’ was developed to support people across Wales by giving them personalised advice to help make changes.
“Whether it’s quick, cost-effective solutions like batch cooking, buying second hand clothes or lowering the settings on your radiators, or long-term investments like insulating your home or switching to an electric vehicle, changes really add up.”
Mother of three, Cathryn Scott, who runs the ‘Cardiff Mummy Says’ lifestyle blog, said:
“My Green Choices reminded us that we don’t have to do everything all at once.
“Just pick one or two changes you know you can make easily and when those become an established part of your lives, add in one or two more. If everyone did that, it would make such a difference.”
Carys Rees, who runs the ‘This Girl Walks’ website, added:
“Using My Green Choices was a great way to reflect on my habits and identify where I could make realistic, positive changes.
“It’s an accessible tool that encourages climate action in a really practical way.”
