Sero, a tech firm and net zero specialist dedicated to supporting the decarbonisation of the UK housing sector, has been officially recognised as the Fastest Growing Green Firm at the Wales Fast Growth 50 awards 2023.
The Wales Fast Growth 50 2023 awards celebrates pioneering businesses in Wales and took place at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff on Thursday (30th November 2023). The ceremony saw 12 accolades awarded to the fastest-growing firms in categories that ranged from Consumer Products, Technology and Digital, and Financial Service, and others.
Sero came in at number six overall in the top 50, securing the Fastest Growing Green Firm accolade, sponsored by The Welsh Government, which has partnered with the Fast Growth 50 Index as part of its continuing commitment to empowering sustainable business growth across the country. Welsh Government, in alignment with their commitment to the environment, has introduced legislation aimed at achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (also known as carbon emissions) by 2050.
Sero is a trailblazing technology company established in 2017 that has emerged as a driving force in sustainable housing solutions. Recognised for their expertise and innovation, Sero is committed to empowering housing providers by offering comprehensive support in understanding and optimising the efficiency of their homes.
Sero's mission revolves around the creation of simple, affordable solutions that effectively enhance residential properties, addressing critical issues such as climate change and fuel poverty. It ensures that housing providers can provide tenants with homes that are not only sustainable but also affordable and conducive to a healthy lifestyle.
This year’s Fast Growth 50 has been a showcase of excellence across various sectors, with Sero leading the charge in environmentally-sustainable growth.
James Williams, co-founder at Sero, said:
“We’re over-joyed to be listed as the fastest growing green company in Wales, which really is a tribute to all the incredible work that our fantastic team at Sero is doing to help make homes across the UK more energy efficient and cheaper to run.
“Solving complex problems and coming up with new and inventive ways of addressing the net zero challenge is what we live for at Sero – and we’re incredibly thankful for all the organisations across the private and public sector that continue to work with us, support us and are helping us to grow.
“We’re clear that no single business, industry or government will be able to address the colossal challenge that is climate change on their own – it has to be a collaborative, partnership-driven approach that brings everyone on the journey to a brighter, greener future. So we’d like to say a huge thank you to Wales Fast Growth Awards 50 for recognising Sero – and to the Welsh Government for sponsoring the green business category – but also take our hats off to the many other firms that are out there making a difference. We’re very much looking forward to working with more like-minded businesses, non-profit housing associations and councils across Wales and England who share our vision for the future.”
Mark Goddard, Head of UK Regions at UBS Global Wealth Management said:
“Business owners and entrepreneurs are the engine of our economy, and UBS has a long history advising and connecting them on each stage of their wealth journey, helping them to unlock their potential.
Led by entrepreneurial spirit and often solving some of the UK’s biggest issues, the level of talent and innovation uncovered through this year’s list shows that more needs to be done to support small businesses to strengthen local economies and give back to the local community. As the lead sponsor of this year’s Fast Growth 50, UBS is looking forward to following and supporting these businesses as they go from strength to strength.”
Dylan Jones Evans, Founder of Fast Growth 50, said:
“After 25 years of the Wales Fast Growth 50, the performance of Sero demonstrates that entrepreneurial businesses are still driving prosperity and growth across the nation whilst generating wealth and jobs in their local communities. Most important of all, their success stories will hopefully inspire others to follow a similar journey.
“With 50 Welsh firms generating nearly £600 million of additional turnover and creating over 2,000 new jobs between 2020 and 2022, this year’s list demonstrates yet again how innovation, enterprise and sheer hard work can make a real difference in all sectors from construction to financial services to technology.”
The Wales Fast Growth 50 offers a unique platform for companies to gain recognition for their achievements and contributes significantly to the regional economy. The winners are selected based on their percentage revenue growth over the last two years, showcasing their ability to scale rapidly and sustainably.
