Offering a wide range of green courses, Green Skills Academy has trained 550 people in solar and heat pump technologies.
They offer funded programs in renewables, efficiency, and more, accessible through the Green Academy Wales Virtual Campus.
Green Academy Wales offers a range of green courses that offer hands-on learning and expert guidance covering:
Construction – These courses offer vital expertise for the construction sector, with a strong focus on sustainability. Encompassing crucial subjects such as sustainable building design and renewable energy integration, they are well-suited for individuals aspiring to enter the construction field or those aiming to elevate their existing skill set.
Automotive – These courses are designed to equip individuals with the skills and expertise needed for a career in the automotive industry, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, covering a variety of topics, from electric vehicle technology to sustainable transportation solutions, Ideal for those pursuing a career in the automotive industry or staying current with green automotive technology.
Environmental – These courses are crafted to deepen individuals' understanding of environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. These courses cover a broad spectrum of topics, including circular economy principles, fossil-free steelmaking, electric vehicle technology, environmental impact and sustainability, and renewable energy technologies. With expert guidance, practical solutions, and a focus on actionable steps, these programs are tailored for learners of all levels.
A number of these courses are available as part of the Welsh Government's Personal Learning Accounts programme (PLAs) which is ensuring that fully funded, flexible courses and qualifications are available so that people can train around existing responsibilities to progress in a current job or change careers altogether.
The Welsh Government has expanded the criteria for the Personal Learning Account available across Wales through the 13 Welsh colleges. Welsh residents who are aged 19 years or over and want to gain skills and qualifications in priority sectors will be eligible for the courses if they meet at least one of the following criteria:
- They are employed (including self-employed) and earning under £30,596 per annum
- They work on a zero hours contract or are agency staff
- Over the age of 19 and living in Wales
- The course you wish to do is exempt from the wage cap i.e. digital or net zero.
