Marubeni Europower’s HyBont Project Recommended for Approval

Bridgend County Borough Council officers have published their committee report on Marubeni Europower’s HyBont Green Hydrogen Project.

The report recommends that subject to the holding direction from Welsh Government being lifted that planning permission is granted with conditions. The application will come before a special committee for determination on 17 October 2024.

The proposed Bridgend facility is designed to significantly contribute to Bridgend’s transition to sustainable energy, reducing carbon emissions whilst preserving services and jobs.

The proposed facility, at Brynmenyn Industrial Estate, includes several key components including electrolysers for hydrogen production, storage facilities to ensure a reliable supply, and a hydrogen refuelling station to support local transportation needs. Additionally, plans for a solar farm at Bryncethin will provide a renewable energy source, further enhancing the project's sustainability profile.

The officer’s report addresses representations from statutory consultees as well as the public consultation. It outlines the details of the proposed development, considering local and national policies.

George Dodd, Senior Vice President at Marubeni Europower, said:

“This application is the product of years of work by the whole project team. We strongly believe in the potential of the HyBont project to contribute positively to the local economy while promoting environmental sustainability and we welcome the decision to bring it to committee. We look forward to the committee decision.”
