Work is underway at a Denbighshire primary school to provide better energy efficiency for staff and pupils.
Denbighshire County Council’s Energy and Building Maintenance have collaborated to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and provide long term cost savings at Ysgol Pentrecelyn.
The Council’s Energy Team are working on several projects to improve building energy efficiency and support the reduction of running costs over the long term in the Council’s non-domestic building estate which is responsible for over 60 percent of Council carbon emissions.
Work at Ysgol Pentrecelyn from the Energy team includes topping up pitched roof insulation on the school buildings, insulating cavity wall sections, installing LED efficient lighting and adding a solar PV system to harness the sun’s energy to improve efficiency on site.
The Building Maintenance team is complimenting this work by replacing old boilers with modern condensing units, the single glazed windows with modern and efficient double-glazed units, replacing a flat roof on site and upgrading the insulation to 160mm of PIR insulation.
Work at the site is estimated to be completed by February 2024.

“As a school we have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in partnership with Denbighshire County Council to develop our school building. The modernisation work and installation of solar panels ensures we can learn in a traditional, historical building in an area of outstanding beauty, whilst also reducing our carbon footprint. This is an important year for the school as we are celebrating our 150th Birthday and we are grateful to Denbighshire County Council for this investment which has modernised our school for its current and future pupils.”
