Efficiency Without Compromise: A Passive House Approach

The construction industry stands as a crucial sector, shaping the landscapes of our living and working spaces through the creation of homes, buildings, and infrastructure.

Faced with escalating expectations for improved, more intelligent, and greener construction practices, the sector is challenged to redefine the way buildings are conceived, fabricated, and assembled. In response to these demands, there is a pressing need to foster the skills essential for the industry's prosperity.

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Construction Wales Innovation Centre has been funded to offer a new training programme which they’ve called Construct Net Zero Cymru (CNZC).  CNZC is made of two distinctive projects that will focus on broadening our understanding of the green agenda as well as develop practical training skills

Efficiency Without Compromise: A Passive House Approach

Efficiency Without Compromise is a Passivhaus training project that will create a greater awareness of the principles and techniques used in the design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of existing schemes in Carmarthenshire.

Individuals will be able to apply for places on Passivhaus courses including the the Certified Passivhaus Designer and Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson courses.

Carmarthenshire County Council have already invested in building new schools to the Passivhaus standard.   Efficiency without compromise will focus on educating and promoting a greater awareness of the principles and techniques used in the design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of existing Passivhaus schemes in the  Carmarthenshire.

The training programme will cover a variety of topics, including building science, energy efficiency, airtightness, ventilation, insulation, and passive-solar design delivered through theoretical and some hands-on activities.

The programme will include lectures, webinars and demonstration of existing regional case studies.

Fully funded training will include;.

  • Passivhaus for Trades
  • Passivhaus for Designers
  • Passivhaus for Practice / Maintenance (new and bespoke)

The training will include the use of energy modelling software and airtightness tests to help participants understand and optimize the energy performance of these buildings.

In addition to the technical aspects, the training program will also cover the social and economic benefits of building energy-efficient buildings, such as improved health and well-being, reduced energy bills, environmental footprint and promote sustainable development.
